APPEAL FOR FUNDING
Tanzania has a critical shortage of trained doctors to care for the population. There is only one doctor for every 29,143 people in Tanzania compared to one doctor for every 310 in the UK.
THIS SHORTAGE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED URGENTLY
There are many candidates who come forward to be trained as doctors. However there is a limited amount of funding available to support their training.
Tuition Fees for medical students cost about £1700 per year for 5 years
Even with Government help most pay about £700 per year
On top of that they have living expenses of up to £1100 per year
Nurses and other healthcare students pay similar amounts, usually for 3 years
CAN YOU HELP?
Doctors and other medically trained workers are desperately needed in Tanzania, and by providing support for the students of KCMC you will be helping to meet this need. Any amount of money is welcome, and Gift Aid will make it go further. If you would like to undertake a sponsored event, check out our JustGiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/friendsofkcmc/, and for more details of how you can give, contact us at fokcmc[AT]leppards.org
The Friends of KCMC have already supported about 20 people in their training (see Students). Subilaga Kazimoto (pictured) has fulfilled her promise to return to the Tabora region where there is currently only one trained doctor to care for the local population.
A thank you from Subilaga’s husband:
