(Bsc Health Lab, 3rd year)
Martha writes: “I am 24 years old, and one of 15 children. I have 8 brothers and 6 sisters. My father is now 75, and has two wives. My mother is his second wife, and I am the 3rd of her 5 children. My father was a peasant, and my mother is a housewife. We all live in Moshi District of Kilimanjaro Region. Of the 15 children, only 4 have attained university level, and of the 7 girls, I am the only one. I have achieved good results in my 1st and 2nd years, and I believe this wonderful chance is from God. I really like microbiology, especially immunology, and I pray God to bless me so that I can become the best immunologist in the near future.”

Irene Rusticus Haule (MD, 3rd year)
Irene writes: “I am 23 years old, the 4th in a family of 5 children. I live with my mother, who was widowed in 2005. I have 3 brothers, and one young sister, who is still at home as my mother could not afford to pay her school fees. My mother is a peasant, and in general we have a really hard time managing our life since my father passed away. I thank Almighty God that so far I have been doing great in my studies, with good pass marks and grades. I believe I will keep it up as I will no longer have to worry about the problem of School fees, thanks to Friends of KCMC. When I have qualified, I hope to specialise in Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
